Aflac's Responsiblity for the Environment, a CSR Program by American Family Life Assurance Company of Columbus, Inc.


Aflac is dedicated to the health and well being of the environment from which it works through effective and efficient management of its operations with responsible environmental stewardship.

Through a corporate recycling program, Aflac recycles office paper, cardboard, aluminum cans, computer hardware and printer cartridges (one of the most successful recycling initiatives).

Aflac also incorporates paperless alternatives in the company, which includes the use of the software SmartApp to store information. Further, Aflac uses energy saving options through the adaptive start automation system which tracks a building's needs for heat, etc. The company also uses eco-friendly low mercury lights.

Aflac also supports fuel efficiency through the teleworking program, which reduces the commute for employees. Aflac staff can also use carpool services in Atlanta. The company also incorporates eco-friendly areas in office buildings by using recycled furniture.

Virtualization technology is also implemented at Aflac throuhg the use of VMWare, which reduces hardware and power needs by replacing physical servers with virtual ones. Aflac is also in the process of creating a water conservation plan and carbon footprint.
