AIDS-in-the-Workplace, a CSR Program by Abbott Laboratories
"A cross-functional task force of representatives from human resources from Abbott offices in South Africa and Chicago headquarters, corporate health, public affairs, risk management, international commercial divisions, the Abbott Laboratories Fund and South African employees led effort to create a model AIDS-in-the-Workplace program in South Africa with intent to phase in additional offices,” according to the National Library of Medicine Gateway.
The AIDS-in-the-Workplace program was launched in South Africa in June 2002. It included HIV/AIDS education and prevention, voluntary counseling and testing, and treatment including ARVs (antiretroviral treatments) for employees and their dependents to address the growing problem of HIV/AIDS in developing countries. Based on the framework of South Africa’s AIDS-in-the-Workplace program, a program was put in place in Abbott’s Thailand office and is being put in place in Abbott's India office.
“Building an AIDS in the workplace program requires leadership from headquarters, inputs from various areas of expertise, and local buy-in,” according to the National Library of Medicine Gateway. The AIDS-in-the-Workplace program continues to grow and be successful."
