Greening Our Supply Chain Program, a CSR Program by Marriott International, Inc.

"Each year, Marriott International and its owners spend about $10 billion buying products and services for its 3,000 hotels around the world each year. Because of that, they created a program that would allow them to find environmentally friendly solutions at no extra cost."
Through this program, Marriot works "with BICâ„¢ to develop pens made of about 75% recycled material that will be distributed in our U.S. and Canadian hotels for our guests and associates. At our hotels in Central Europe, new laundry detergent is being used that cuts the amount of phosphates released into waste water by approximately 220,000 lbs." Marriott also "worked with Standard Textile to save six million gallons of water annually. Marriott is committed to buying nearly one million gallons of paint that are low in Volatile Organic Compounds. Lower concentrations of VOCs in paints are safer to use, less polluting and help minimize health risks." The Marriot is "also looking into introducing guest room key cards that can be composted, installing carpet that can be recycled and stocking our bathrooms with soaps and shampoos that come in greener packaging."
