Improving Pediatric Health in Cambodia, a CSR Program by Abbott Laboratories

"War and civil unrest have left Cambodia with some of the worst health statistics in the region, with women and young children at particular risk. In an effort to improve the overall health of women and children in Asia, the Abbott Fund has formed a partnership with Direct Relief International (DRI) to support nutrition education and programs for physicians and nurses at Angkor Hospital for Children, a pediatric teaching hospital in Siem Reap, Cambodia,” according to the Abbott Laboratories Web site.

The partnership continues to support Angkor Hospital in training professionals and teaching families about healthy nutrition to improve their children’s health.

The results of the partnership in Cambodia are continually increasing. More than 147,000 children received health services since the program’s establishment in 2006. Other results include 247 children have been treated for severe malnutrition. Also, 339 staff and government health care providers attended in-service training on nutrition and 3,600 families have attended informational nutrition classes."
