Natural Energy, a CSR Program by Ricoh Company, Ltd.
With a focus on energy conservation, Ricoh Company Ltd has sought alternative methods of energy to reduce its CO2 emissions in order to combat its effect on global warming. Since 2002, Ricoh has purchased wind generated energy and in 2004, began purchasing biomass energy as well. In doing so, CO2 emissions have been reduced by about 457 tons collectively.
Ricoh furthered its efforts in 2006 with the construction of an electricity generated waste water treatment facility in Namazu, Japan. With the use of 1,080 solar panels, the plant generates roughly 148 megawatts of energy annually, reducing overall CO2 emissions by 56 tons each year.
In 2007, multiple Ricoh sales subsidiaries in the Netherlands and the head office of Ricoh Europe PLC in London made a switch to natural energy. Due to the switch, the estimated reduction of CO2 emissions will be approximately 1,300 tons annually.
