Send a Kid to Camp, a CSR Program by Abbott Laboratories

"The Send a Kid to Camp program provides “product donations and scholarship funds that make it possible for children and teens (6–17 years of age) newly diagnosed with diabetes or struggling with the challenges of diabetes to attend a diabetes summer camp for the first time,” according to the Abbot Laboratories Web site. Abbott has supported the program for six years and the camps spread across the United States

The camps challenge the childhood stigma of being diagnosed with diabetes. It reinforces the message that kids with diabetes can live healthy lives. The camp gives in-depth training for participants on how to manage the diabetes including using a glucose meter and counting carbohydrates.

Abbott has donated almost $1 million in production donations including blood glucose meters and blood ketone meters. Abbott scholarships have enabled more than 500 children to participate in diabetes camps around the US."
